Frequently asked questions

What time can we check in and check out?

Check in is from 2pm and check out is 11am. We operate a self check in with keys left in the key safe outside your property. You will receive a detailed check in email from us with lots of useful information and also your key safe code.

There’s no need to come to reception so please just let yourselves in and make yourselves at home. At the point of check out, please just pop your key back in the key safe by 11am as you head off.

Can I book a treatment during my stay?

Blue Door Barns has a cosy treatment room on site and works with some of the very best therapists in the area to offer a range of holistic treatments. We recommend that you book your treatments in advance of your stay to avoid disappointment so just choose your treatment and email us with this and your preferred date and time.

Where are the most local places for eating out?

You are in the right place for a number of excellent country pubs. The closest to us, five minutes by car of taxi, is The Ram Inn in the lovely village of Firle. There’s also The Sussex Ox on Milton Street, The Jolly Sportsman in East Chiltington, The Griffin in Fletching and The Eight Bells in Jevington which are not far away and all on great walking routes. They are excellent in the evening too.

Lewes is just five minutes from our door with plenty of choice including two fantastic neighbourhood restaurants called Squisito and Fork, as well as Bills, The Swan, Erawan for Thai, The Castle for Chinese and Zorba for Turkish. There’s also some great cafes for coffee and light lunches including The Trading Post, Flint Owl and The Riverside Cafe.

Are there any walking routes which we can take direct from Blue Door Barns?

We are situated in the South Downs National Park and have direct access on to the South Downs Way so there’s lots of walking from the door. Take a look at our blog Walks from the Blue Door for some recommendations.

Where are the nearest supermarkets to Blue Door Barns?

Lewes is two miles from us and has a large Tesco, Aldi and Waitrose. There is also a large Sainsbury in nearby Newhaven.

Can I charge my electric car at Blue Door Barns?

We have a charging point installed which you can use but please do let us know if you’d like to book this and we can make sure it is available. We will just add the usage charge onto your final bill.

Can I bring my dog?

Blue Door Barns is dog friendly but we just ask that you let us know if you are bringing your dog at the point of booking. There is a one-off £10 charge per dog.

Is Blue Door Barns wheelchair friendly?

Of our four barns/rooms, two are particularly suitable for those with mobility issues or who require wheelchair access. These include The Nook and The Lodge.

Please note that The Lodge was built to specification rather than being a converted barn and so we were able to ensure wider doorways for this property.

All our barns are on the ground floor with just small, single steps into the properties with paved areas outside each. We do have a gravel driveway but car drop offs can be made right outside each property and parking is very close. If you need to discuss your specific requirements, please call Bryony on 07788446621.

Is there parking at Blue Door Barns?

We have plenty of private parking at Blue Door Barns. As you turn off the road please drive across the large gravel carpark and through the open blue gate into Blue Door Barns. There's a couple of parking spaces behind the barns but if you follow the drive round signed reception there are more parking spaces there.
